Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience leading and managing projects, including policy development
  • Experience providing advice to senior management
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing timelines
  • Experience working independently
  • Superior interpersonal skills with an ability to build collaborative relationships with communities, law enforcement, justiceand social service stakeholders
  • Excellent written communication skills, including experience preparing complex documents such as reports, briefing notes,project and policy proposals
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of provincial legislation related to policing, including The Police Services Act and The Law Enforcement Review Act, and federal statutes such as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act and the Criminal Code
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the administration of policing in the Province of Manitoba
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial and First Nation governments, structures, and systems
  • Knowledge of First Nations cultures and traditions

Desired:

  • Undergraduate degree in social sciences or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience relevant tothis position may be considered

Duties:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Policing Services and Public Safety, the Director is a member of the policing management team and will contribute substantive expertise in public policy matters in support of the Department’s legislative and program mandates. The incumbent acts as the Director of First Nations Policing, which includes responsibility for First Nations policing and public safety initiatives, including agreements for funding and oversight of First Nations policing services and the First Nation Safety Officer Program. The incumbent is responsible for managing, developing and implementing policies with the objective of ensuring that all Manitobans receive professional, effective, consistent policing based on standards set out in The Police Services Act. Within the parameters of assigned authority, the incumbent will represent the Department on working groups, and provide collaborative options and recommendations to key stakeholder groups and government on policing and public safety matters.
