DETECTIVE CONSTABLE – DRUG ENFORCEMENT UNIT x 2 (Internal/External)

The Detective Constable – Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) is responsible for investigations into Drug Enforcement and Street Level Organized crime related offences. These investigations may include judicial authorizations, conducting surveillance, use of informants, authoring intelligence reports, accused debriefs, expert testimony and undercover operations. In addition, aid and support other UCCM APS officers involved in drug investigations while remaining current with respect to relevant legislation, including the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Regularly attend meetings including with various community stakeholders and provide presentations to a variety of agencies on drug use and trends within United Chiefs and Councils of Mnidoo Mnising (UCCMM) communities as part of the Community Mobilization. Furthermore, regularly respond to correspondence received from provincial and federal crowns and updating files accordingly. The Detective Constable – DEU will assist the organization in successfully meeting its’ mission of providing culturally sensitive policing services to the UCCM police service area.

Your duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Conduct, co-ordinate and manage investigation / project-based initiatives, involving Controlled Drugs and Substances and Cannabis Act offenses (illegal dispensaries, clandestine laboratories, proceeds of crime, drug use, drug trafficking, manufacturing, cultivation, importation, and exportation).
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive police information, as well as cultivate and maintain confidential human sources.

Your education and experience:

  • Completion of Ontario Police College Basic Constable Training
  • Hold the rank of 1st Class Constable
  • Completion of any of the following course(s): Criminal Investigators Training/General Investigative Techniques

Your skills include (but are not limited to):

  • Knowledge of the Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Food and Drugs Act and other federal statutes.
  • Knowledge of current case law and decisions affecting the administration of justice.
  • Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities as defined by the Major Case Management model.
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques to provide advice to officers and conduct specialty investigations.
