The Access to Justice Team at UNODC works to ensure equal access to justice for all, as a key component of a fair, humane, effective, and efficient criminal justice system and a foundation for all of the work of the UNODC on crime prevention and criminal justice. UNODC’s work on equal access to justice for all supports Member States in meeting their commitments under the 2030 Agenda, particularly Sustainable Development Goals 5 (Gender equality), 10 (Reduced inequalities), 16 (Peace, justice and strong institutions) and 17 (Partnerships), as well as the overarching objective of ‘leaving no one behind’. The work of the Access to Justice Team focuses on reforming and modernizing police institutions; increasing the efficiency, accountability, and integrity of criminal justice institutions; promoting access to legal aid; widening the use of restorative justice; and protecting, assisting, and supporting victims of crime, together with addressing discrimination within the criminal justice system.
