The number of police officers in Canada over the age of 50 is increasing, according to the StatCan report. Officers in this age bracket account for 18 per cent of police in 2018, compared to 15 per cent in 2012.

The supreme Court of Canada has ruled that Mandatory Retirement policies at the age of 60 for first responders was legal and reasonable.

Do you agree? Do you have a policy on this at your service or in your collective agreement?

Perhaps a waiver at the age of 60 pending a physical fitness?
