Brian Rupert has been
involved in policing for 35 years. He is a 29 year veteran
of the Ontario Provincial Police. Most of his policing career was spent in
the Northwest Region of Ontario. He served as inspector
and coordinator of First Nations Northern Policing for the OPP
from 1989 until he retired in 1999. He then took on
the job of helping the Treaty Three Chiefs develop a First
Nations Police Service which was formally established in April
2003.
Brian Rupert, Chief of Police for the Treaty Three Police
Service was elected President of the First Nations Chiefs of
Police Association (FNCPA) in
Calgary
May 15, 2004.
“Policing is
evolving on a daily basis and we need to keep stride with that.
We have to ensure that police officers have the ability to
respond to all policing needs in First Nation communities,” said
Chief Rupert.
Chief
Rupert has identified two areas of priority for his term
as President of the FNCPA:
1)
Funding, wage parity, and training for Aboriginal police
services coast to coast.
2)
To continue to enhance the relationship between Aboriginal
police services and Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness
Canada (PSEPC)
