Brian Rupert, President of the FNCPA

Brian Rupert has been involved in policing for 35 years.  He is a 29 year veteran of the Ontario Provincial Police.  Most of his policing career was spent in the Northwest Region of Ontario.  He served as inspector and coordinator of First Nations Northern Policing for the OPP from 1989 until he retired in 1999.   He then took on the job of helping the Treaty Three Chiefs develop a First Nations Police Service which was formally established in April 2003.

Brian Rupert, Chief of Police for the Treaty Three Police Service was elected President of the First Nations Chiefs of Police Association (FNCPA) in Calgary May 15, 2004.

“Policing is evolving on a daily basis and we need to keep stride with that.  We have to ensure that police officers have the ability to respond to all policing needs in First Nation communities,” said Chief Rupert.

Chief Rupert has identified two areas of priority for his term as President of the FNCPA:

1)       Funding, wage parity, and training for Aboriginal police services coast to coast.

 2)       To continue to enhance the relationship between Aboriginal police services and Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada (PSEPC)
